Philanthropy Events
To support our philanthropy, Service For Sight and Joining Forces, we hold two events: Slices for Sight and Anchor Splash. Slices for Sight is a one night event in the fall where all members of the school and community are invited to the Delta Gamma house on Oak Lane for unlimited pizza. This is a fundraising event in which all proceeds go to the Delta Gamma Foundation and Service for Sight. Anchor Splash is our week long event held every spring. Both events are used to raise money and awareness for Service for Sight around campus.
The events for Anchor Splash are usually pool games, a pageant, and a huge talent show in Burruss Hall. Organizations from all over the Virginia Tech Campus join together to raise money and compete for the top prize, 1st place in Anchor Splash! All together, Anchor Splash promises a week long of fun, friendly competitions and excitement!
Here at Virginia Tech, the Delta Gamma Fraternity raises an average of over $20,000 during our week long Anchor Splash event. The Delta Rho chapter donates a portion of the funds to the Blacksburg Lions Club to benefit seeing-eye dogs that serve the visually impaired in our local community. Montgomery County Schools also receive a portion of the funds to buy Braille printers and other items to aid in the education of their visually impaired students
We also visit local schools to help with vision screenings, dedicate around 850 service hours a semester, work with the local chapter of the Lion's Club, as well as keep a very close relationship with a local blind woman named Louise who has become a dear friend to us over the years.
A few years ago the sisters of Delta Gamma at Virginia Tech were contacted to help Louise. Sisters walk with Louise a few times a week, as well as share meals and visits with her and speak with her on the phone. Helping Louise has enabled us to contribute to Service for Sight on a more personal level. Louise is truly a part of our chapter and she provides us with insights and laughs each time we meet with her.
